Preserving the heart of essential sewing skills while creating sustainable pathways for community empowerment.
Did you know, The number of seamstress and tailors in the U.S. has declined by more than 50% since the 1980s, with most artisans now over the age of 55 and few community training pathways replacing them.
Meanwhile, Americans are disposing over 11 MILLION tons of textiles each YEAR, most of it being clothing that could be repaired or up-cycled using basic skills.
In our world sewing is much more than fashion; it is a practical trade that builds economic independence, reduces waste, and strengthens community resilience.
While these skills quietly disappear, so does accessible pathways to workforce development, sustainability, and self reliance. Cut & SewCiety exists to ensure they do not.

Preserving The Essential Skills
Through accessible workshops and shared resources, Cut & SewCiety creates welcoming spaces where youth, adults, & seniors can grow creatively together.
Our workshops focus on teaching sewing and textile skills that reduce waste, preserve traditional craftsmanship, and open doors to new economic opportunities.
Participants in our program can explore a range of classes designed to meet them every stage of their sewing journey.
Waste No More
At Cut & SewCiety, sustainability is just as important as learning the skill of sewing. Many of the materials used in our classes are generously donated or thoughtfully repurposed from items that might otherwise end up in landfills.
Fabrics that once existed as TShirts, jeans, beddings, curtains, etc. are given a second life through creativity and craftsmanship. By transforming these materials into new garments and handmade goods, participants learn how to reduce waste while developing valuable sewing skills.
Economic Influence
Our programs are curated to teach practical sewing skills that can grow into entrepreneurship, side incomes, or small business ventures with growth potential .
We offer classes introducing participants to projects that can become marketable goods, such as accessories, bags, upcycled products, etc. For those interested in advancing further, our garment making pathway teaches the complete process of creating garments from start to finish; equipping participants with the skills needed to design, construct, and tailor garments.
Combining creative education with entrepreneurship focused training, we help participants transform sewing from a valuable life skill into a tool for financial empowerment.
